Platelet Rich Plasma Processing (Magellan)

The Magellan system is a medical device that produces platelet rich plasma (PRP), from a small amount of peripheral blood or marrow, which becomes the bases of autologous platelet gel in the presence of thrombin. PRP has been extensively used in cardiac and orthopedic surgeries. Additional research on the utility of PRP for surgical closure and potential benefit in infection control is ongoing in a number of institutions.
